It's owners Joseph and Maria Dattilo truly know how to make you feel at home while enjoying some of the best Italian food you will ever have. Their menu has a wide range of pasta dishes, seafood, steaks, Italian standards, and pizzas. These delicious dishes are prepared fresh daily. I have eaten at Dattilo Ristorante many times. My favorite dish is the shrimp and pasta. I enjoy the food and the warm family atmosphere. If you ever find yourself in Hemet, CA, make sure you stop by Dattilo Ristorante. About Dattilo Ristorante Italiano: Joseph and Maria Dattilo were born in Italy a long, long, long time ago. Father Rosario had a delicatessen, and Mamma Christina operated it. Joseph, Achille, and Annunziato were born above the delicatessen. Joseph, at age 5 or 9, worked in the delicatessen. Not really; he helped Mamma Christina. Papa Rosario, in his nightly discussions, always talked to us kids about how to run the business. The moral of the story was "when, God willing, you go to the United States, you should be in food service. Because, you see, we eat morning, noon and night, and if you have good food, people will patronize you."

So, in 1962, Joseph tried to open a restaurant in Anaheim. But, because of circumstances, it never happened. Joseph put his dream to rest until 1989, when his dream came true - "Thank you Lord." "In 1988, with the blessing of God, we purchased the parcel next door to have enough parking for the restaurant customers."

In all of these preparations, Maria (Joseph's wife) did not know of Joseph's intentions of opening a restaurant. Maria was "fit to be tied." You see, Maria worked as a server in her brother's restaurant. With all of the hard work that goes into a restaurant, she didn't want one of her own. But, Joseph persistent in promising this and that, Maria said "O.K." It was smooth sailing building the restaurant. Everything went well.

Now you must know that Joseph doesn't know how to cook. Maria, the fifth of twelve kids, born and raised in Italy, learned to cook with her grandma at a very young age. When she came to this country at age 13, she cooked for a family of 12 using her recipes from her mother and grandma. Maria loves to cook. "I remember when we were first married. She was supposed to cook for two. Instead, she cooked for 12, and we had pasta and beans for a week."

From Joseph's family, his brother Achille has a beautiful restaurant in Whittier, California. Annunziato bakes homemade cakes. From Maria's family, Frank owns a delicatessen, Luciano owns a delicatessen, Emma had a restaurant in Orange and Anthony has a restaurant in Temecula. Today, we can say that we have a restaurant where Maria makes the bread, lasagna, ravioli, manicotti, salad dressing and tomato sauce (which she cooks in a stainless steel pan, not aluminum, to keep from disfavoring the sauce).

Monalisa serves tables and makes pasta. Marcantonio cooks with Mamma. You might ask yourself about Joseph. What does he do? You remember Joseph does not cook. Joseph's job is to sample the food, gain a few pounds, and see that everyone is happy!
